Diagnostic Tools

Besides an in-depth Consultation where I go over all your Health History, Lifestyle and Routines to date, as a Naturopath I have been trained to use a variety of Diagnostic tools that I use during the Consultation to help me understand where your current Health and Well-being is at.

Iridology (Iris Reading)

Iridology is the study of the delicate structures of the Iris of the eye to help identify strengths, weaknesses and pre-dispositions to potential health issues.  Patterns, colors, and other characteristics of the Iris hold information about a person’s systemic health.

Blood Pressure (BP)Readings

There are certain factors that can cause blood pressure to temporarily rise. BP normally rises (Hypertension) as a result of stress, smoking, cold temperatures, exercise, caffeine and certain medicines.

It is also important to monitor Low Blood pressure (Hypotension) to find out what’s causing it so that it can be treated, worst case scenario means that severely low blood pressure can deprive your body of enough oxygen to carry out its functions, leading to damage to your heart and brain. Dizziness, blurred vision, lack of concentration can be some indications.

Fingernails and Tongue Analysis (Chinese/Ayurvedic)

The Chinese (TCM) and Indian (Ayurveda) treatments and assessments have used fingernail. pulse and tongue analysis for thousands of years, the fingernails, pulse and tongue can show characteristics that correspond to the different organs of the body and its health. Fingernails regenerate every 6-8 months and the tongue replaces its top layer every 3 days, so these procedures can be valuable tools to show signs of where your current health is at, and which can be reassessed after a period of time once health protocols have been put into place.

Hemaview (Live Blood Analysis)

Hemaview or live blood analysis is the use of high-resolution dark field microscopy to observe live blood cells Because the blood sample is live you are able to view how the cells are moving and interacting with others, the exact shape of the cells and the monitor various parameters within your body.  These parameters can include:- inflammation levels, oxidative stress, health of your blood e.g. iron, B12 , essential fatty acid levels, immune function and liver stress being some.

Indican and Zinc Tally and Mg Tests

Indican Urine test which is a simple and accurate, fast (15 min) screening tool for the identification of protein putrefaction in the gastrointestinal tract. Measured Elevated levels indicate intestinal toxemia or overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, putrefaction of undigested food in the bowels, stomach disorders (constipation, malabsorption).

The Zinc Tally test is used to evaluate a persons Zinc levels which if low can also be used as a supplement Zinc product to assist where bodily intake is inadequate. Zinc is an essential mineral that are bodies need, although the body does not require large amounts of zinc, it is possible for a person to be zinc-deficient.   Zinc does many things in the body, some being:- it supports cell function, boosts immunity, helps cells divide, maintaining the sense of smell and taste, promoting wound healing.  Zinc supports growth and development, so an essential mineral for pregnant women and growing children.

Magnesium Chlorine Oral Solution can be recommended to provide nutrient support in cases of suspected magnesium deficiency. Magnesium (Mg) is a mineral nutrient that is critical to many cellular functions in the body and it is important for the relaxation phase of muscles.

Hair Mineral Testing

Hair mineral testing is a quick and easy test taking a sample of your hair which can give you detailed information about your health. Hair analysis can be used to indicate any potential allergies or food intolerances you may have as well as identifying mineral deficiencies, and environmental toxins or chemicals that you have been exposed to.

Saliva Hormone Test

A Saliva test is an assessment of the bio-available hormones present in the body, testing shows how much of your hormones are in your tissues and are therefore active in your body causing the symptoms you may be experiencing.  This type of test can measure three Hormones – Cortisol, DHEA and Melatonin.  Hormonal imbalances can cause many symptoms and health conditions some being:- adrenal exhaustion, un-explained fatigue, depression, mood swings, insomnia and blood sugar imbalances.

Food Sensitivity Testing (Food Detector Kit)

The Food Detective Kit is a convenient finger prick test to detect food antibodies (IgG) that can be conveniently used in the clinic.  You don’t have to send off a sample and wait weeks to receive results from a testing laboratory it is all done on the spot and takes approximately 40 minutes.

A small blood sample is taken from a finger-prick and is then diluted and added to the tray.

Once completed the testing tray will show if the patient has IgG antibodies to specific foods sources that have been added to the tray spotted with food protein extracts.

Kinesiology

Is a form of therapy that uses muscle testing (biofeedback) to look at what may be causing ‘imbalances’ in the body and attempts to relieve these imbalances. The approach examines ‘unresolved stress reactions’ in a person and provides techniques intended to help the body’s natural healing process.  I usually use this technique to check if the food or supplements choices that you are taking are being effective or helpful to your body.
